It has reached the commercialization stage and has a long list of funders, including the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative. Other investors include BASF, Bright Capital, Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers, BP, Total Energy Ventures and a number of individuals. The company was founded in 2008, and its technology was first developed at Rutgers University. As of the end of 2017, it had raised $60 million in funding.
