Maria Belenky

Maria Belenky is Director of Policy and Research at Climate Advisers, where she leads work on energy market transformation and steers much of the firm’s quantitative analytics on the mitigation impact of public policy.

Within the energy sphere, Maria specializes in energy efficiency, particularly as it relates to lending practices within international financial institutions. Her quantitative focus on modeling GHG emissions pathways for the U.S. and globally.

Maria has several years of development and environmental sustainability experience. She has researched the impact of global fossil fuel development for the Natural Resources Defense Council and the Rainforest Action Network, and analyzed US natural disaster risk exposure in partnership with Swiss Re. Previously, Maria worked at the Results for Development Institute where she helped launch the Center for Health Market Innovations, an effort to identify and take to scale programs that improve access to quality health services in the developing world.

Maria holds an M.A. in international relations and international economics, with a focus on energy and the environment, from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and a B.A. in international relations and economics from the University of Pennsylvania.
